live local crabs for Boxing Day?

Robert Lauriston Dec 10, 2011 06:13 PM

Dec. 26 is a Monday. Anywhere to get freshly caught local Dungeness?

Got an email from A.C. that they won't be able to fill my order tomorrow. Any ideas besides trying my luck with Oakland Chinatown?

Roberto, A.C. Fishing Charters, gleaned from another crab thread may have crab that day. You can email them to find out: captal@tigerfishsportfishing.com. They're saying $4.00 lb right now. They dock at Emeryville Marina. Pillar Point will definitely have them too unless a storm. I would think that Chinatown will have them regardless. The crabs may be a few days old, not sure if that's fresh enough for you. I don't think supply will be a problem overall since the boats can set the pots, skip the actual holiday, and still have crab to sell on Monday.

Btw ask for 3.50 if preordering. They advertise that price. Just got a bunch today and they are kicking! Located at bottom of launch ramp.

        Dear Robert,

I don't know where you are exactly. But, I am in Humboldt County, in the county seat of Eureka. I tell you to go over to Woodley Island and there are vessels there selling. Any are good. If you can, have someone show you how to back crab. It will save you room in the pot. If you don't know, let me know, I have photos showing how to do it and I can explain it.

        Good Luck!!

        Erica

I'm in Berkeley. This board stops at the Sonoma County border (Cloverdale / Sea Ranch).

Well I know I have to drive one hour north on hwy one. No more sold in the harbor here. I am not going to buy crabs in the fish tanks. You gotta drive. Crab hotline, Pillar Point harbor ( 650 ) 726 - 5727, you will get a recording. Lotsa crab.
