Oh Bornie of the many commas, I have enjoyed my most accolades buying a "bake for 3 hours" ham at Kroger, no less. They like it even better than Honeybaked, and it is much cheaper. Maybe it's the smell when the walk in the house. I have always baked that ham on Christmas day, but this year may venture out to a crown pork roast, which is flashy and easy all at once. Merry Christmas!

I agree with lambsie. Walmart carries a brand of ham called "Cooks". I've never gone wrong with this ham and have had rave reviews of it. Take the hard rind off and score the fat. Put it in a baking dish, pour some kind of carbonated drink on it (I use diet root beer), make a paste of mustard and brown sugar, pack ham with the paste and bake uncovered 20 minutes per pound at 300. Baste every half hour for best results. Cover with foil if it starts to get too brown. Let it rest 1/2 hour before cutting. It doesn't get much easier than baking a delicious ham. Like Lambsie says, the smell alone is worth any amount of work.
I like honeybaked but like mine better. There was another ham place that we got a free ham at and it was also good but I can't remember the name of it. They had stores all over town and I got mine in Clear Lake. It might have been Logan Farms but I'm just not sure. It was about 15 years ago and that was the last already prepared ham I've ever eaten.

i've gotten it from a good source that HBhams use Hormel spiral cut hams..they add the HBham special process brown sugar crust..but the ham itself is Hormel..i agree with Txredtop..Walmart /Sam's company hams are always good..but the brown sugar/mustard rub is a must..

For the last several years, we've bought the Sam's Spiral Cut ham; the one in the gold wrapper. It comes with a package of glaze, but I use my recipe. Still, that ham is delicious and we haven't gotten a single disappointing one.
