1st Choice Restuarants Booked - Need New Recs

alcoholic29 Dec 9, 2011 07:50 PM

Have visitors coming on short notice and tried to make reservations for Saturday at

Kitchen 1540
Cucina Urbana

Well, they'll all booked on opentable. I'll still try to call tomorrow but in case they aren't free I need another place.

Definitely don't want any steakhouses and I'd like to avoid the Gaslamp area. The restuarants I tried to book give you an idea of what I'm looking for. I was thinking of Tapenade in La Jolla but don't know much about it.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance

All are good suggestions. If all else fails, try Hexagone.

      Bali Hai

Is the Sky Room open...have you been since the remodel?
I was going to suggest Bali Hai too..it's upped it's game and of course, the mai tai is off the chain good...I always ask for a splash of some pineapple juice.
        Boat ramp is another bonus.

I know that George's holds a large number of its tables for phone-in reservations. You might try calling them. I have gotten same day reservations for a Saturday night at least twice before., even when OpenTable said it was booked. It might not work tonight considering it is the holiday season, but I think it's worth a try.

          Eddie V's in LJ
          Marine Room LJ
AR Valentien at the Lodge at Torrey Pines
          Market Del Mar
          Mille Fleurs in RSF

          Try direct too.

+1 on Market and AR Valentien.
Call the restaurants directly--a lot of times Open Table will say they don't have reservations and then when you call, there's a lot more availability than you'd think.
Haven't been to Tapenade for a very long time, but they were good.

You could try for the Wine Vault and Bistro. I'd call ahead for reservations, but they have their 5 course tasting menu tomorrow.

What about The Lodge at Torrey Pines, they do a fine job.
