Help! Night out downtown

I am having a Birthday dinner tomorrow night with my SO and need to find a really nice place. Its last minute because my steakhouse pick doesn't work. Skip steakhouses please.
We are coming in from Oakville and staying downtown so I would like to keep it within a ten minute cab or so.
I'm flexible on budget, thinking high end.
Romatic setting ideally.
We are both amateur foodies
I get out for the odd business dinner downtown but am not that current on best choices currently.

Starfish is busy every time I walk by, a good thing I think. Grace is where we go for many special occasions. I have yet to be disappointed. Acadia and Aria are a couple of new places which have received good reviews, but I can't speak from experience. Enotecha Sociale picked up Grant from the Black Hoof as their chef, so that might also be good.

Thanks for that. I tried Spledido but no luck for the last minute. I have been to all the others except for Starfish which I would consider but was leaning towards some red meat (at least for me). I am a bit out of touch so I am trying to figure out what I am unaware of (a lot). I was thinking about Modus

I have been to Modus several times for lunch. I find it meh. I think I may be in the minority.

I agree with you CocoaChanel....Modus is open on Saturday night - I went there on a Saturday night and found it meh - safe menu, nothing special, and quite pricey.

Starfish actually has a really good steak frites for the carnivores in the group.

I don't recall Biagio or Giancarlo to be special night out places. They're both okay and certainly Giancarlo's the better of the two. However, I wouldn't spend money at either unless space and time were limited. Have either improved in the last year or so?

Biagio - I was confused with Bravi (more for romance)

Giancarlo - I was last there within the last 6 months. I love the beef carpaccio and I think the fish is always exceptionally well prepared there
