16th Birthday Party - North Shore

781momof2 Dec 9, 2011 03:54 PM

Where is a good place to hold a 20-30 person 16th birthday party? Not too expensive. Private room. Possibly able to play music/dance. North Shore, Route 1 area. Or maybe a suggestion for a small hall to rent and have food catered.

is this a party for family or kids? Do you want something like Bostonville Grille with video games and activities or more of a gathering with sit down meal? Fancy or casual?

I'd like more of a casual gathering for 15-16 year olds. Sit down or buffet. Room for them to get together and talk. Possibly a small hall to rent and bring in food. We used to have great birthdays at Bostonville, but after age 11 they said they were too old. I think Bostonville is closed now. Good idea though!

You could try the Beverly Golf and Tennis club. Not sure what the going rate is, but it's not far from Rte. 1 and I've been to a couple of functions here and they do a fabulous job. The last one had a DJ and dancing..so I know that is doable.
Teresa's in Middleton does nice functions..but I think they may have a 30 person minimum.
Other places on route 1 to try that have function rooms are Prince Pizza ( inexpensive), Hilltop ( which does a surprisingly good job on functions.
The problem I think you will run into with a lot of restaurants that have function rooms is that they have a minimum..and that minimum may be 30-40. I have also been to functions at The Continental on Rte. 1 as well.
For non restaurant options..I would look into local KofC or Elks . Usually you can get a function room for minimum cost and bring in your own food.

Sylvan Street grill in Peabody has a small function room and a great menu, popular spot for a teen party and still options for adults. try the Tavern in the square in Salem.

Also in Beverly, the Franco American Club at 44 Park Street has a large room they rent out and can even supply a bartender for any event. I would say it is the cheapest alternative but a very nice space. Plenty of parking across the street.

Calitris has a nice small room in the back and reasonbably priced buffet menus. dont know about music, although i have heard it from the downstairs room.. My nephew wanted all his birthdays to be at FIre and Ice, teens love it, but its in cambridge and i havent been there.. I love Ocean View in Gloucester where i got married. and the teens at my wedding loved the pool table, and the ocean and i had music, but dont know if you can have small groups. i'll keep thinking...
