TASTY BURGER - Davis Square

Earlier tonight, Chowder reported that Tasty Burger would be opening a second location in Davis Square: http://blogs.bostonmagazine.com/chowd....

Anyone have more details or guesses as to what space it will go into? Maybe the old Pulse Cafe spot or something down towards Downtown and Rosebud? With this and Brick & Mortar's imminent opening, I don't know if I'll ever cross the river again...

  1. Not sure where I read it now, but I recall seeing that there are broader plans to expand the Tasty Burger concept to at least a handful of additional locations. Not sure if it will be a franchise-type operation or not, but it does seem like something that would travel: what are essentially high-quality fast-food burgers and such plus beer, wine and spirits in a noisy, non-cookie-cutter, hip-feeling setting.

Curious to see how they can wrangle on the rare and expensive liquor or beer/wine licenses in Somerville. I know a few people who are waiting (and paying rent on the space in the mean time).

Oh man, I hope that goes through. The liquor license cap has resulted in the loss of a lot of good restaurants in the area, and it makes new restaurants jump through ridiculous hoops just to sell beer.

After that, maybe they'll loosen the silly restrictions on food trucks..

yeah, i dont know what the over/under is on the food truck question, but i wouldnt take that bet.

Did they get a full liquor license in the Kenmore location?

Still a beer and wine license.

      2. The Pulse Cafe spot is going to be Palm Sugar Thai. The only other spots I can think of that are available in Davis are the old Social Security building next to Dunkin's and the new office building going in next to Rosebud, which is supposed to have restaurant space on the ground floor. I'd be really surprised if it went in there, since it'd be basically next door to Spike's Hot Dogs.

        1. The ever-changing space behind the Rosebud, maybe? Are they still booking bands there since the previous bookers opened Radio in Union Square?

The space behind the Rosebud has been part of the Rosebud for several years now -- they took it over and remodeled it.

The space has always been owned by the same family as the Rosebud. They just decided to do their own thing in there after having so many tenants go through. I was in the space at 9:30 on. Recent Thursday night and was one of two people there (not including the bartender).

          2. I just walked by the Rosebud while chatting with a friend and mentioned the Tasty Burger rumor. An older gentleman was taking out the trash and must have overheard. He wasted no time disabusing me of this possibility: "My father's owned this place since the 50s! No way are we selling to Tasty Burger! I have no idea where this rumor started!!"

            Sorry, sir.

Davis Square's loss is Harvard Square's gain: Hidden Restaurants is reporting that since the Rosebud's deal fell through, Tasty Burger is opening a new space at 40 JFK. Which as near as I can tell via Google-fu is currently that 7-11 that's in the corner of The Garage.

Tasty Burger followed by Newbury Comics, within a 30-minute walk from my house? This summer is gonna rule.

Yeah, I'm guessing it will just be in the garage somewhere. Which is cool, because I never found the appeal to Flat Patties that some other hounds have.

It'll be on the T station side of Russell House Tavern. So Tasty Burger will be pretty close to the old 24-hour establishment, the Tasty (R.I.P.).

I stopped in that 7-11 this evening on my way home: they're close to stripped to the walls. The guy said that the 7-11 will be closed within the week, and that Tasty Burger is in fact taking that space over.

Meanwhile you can walk to the Newbury Comics in the Fresh Pond Area, and have a burger at a certain burger joint (stretching the definition of burger a bit).

              2. Anyone know when their Southie location is going to open?
