Yearly gift certificate
For niece and her husband. I was thinking Girl and the Goat or perhaps Picolo Sogno. I've done Topolobampo and Frontera, I think I did the Green Zebra last year. Are either of these comparable? What would I need to spend for dinner for 2? They like anything, ethnic or otherwise. Have done Indian, but could do it again, something new? Would like to come in under $125 but could go to $150, but that would be max. Thanks
How about a Gift Card for the Lettuce Entertain You restaurant group? Their gift cards cover any/all of the restaurants under the Lettuce Entertain umbrella. This would cover a fair number of excellent restaurants (from very high end to very cheap), and allow for a bit of choice. In this group I'm particularly fond of:
- Everest (fine dining French in the Loop)
- L20 (fine dining Seafood in Lincoln Park)
- Mon Ami Gabi (Classy French Bistro in Lincoln Park)
- Nacional 27 (high-energy central/south american food in River North)
- Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab (high-end Steak/Seafood in River North)
Here's their entire list of restaurants: http://www.leye.com/restaurants
I can't imagine they wouldn't enjoy something from among those options.
I agree that a gift card for the Lettuce Entertain You (LEY) restaurants is a great idea, because there are so many options to choose from, from high-end dining (don't forget TRU!) to mid-priced places (also Cafe Ba-ba-reeba for tapas, Shaw's for seafood, Wildfire for steaks) to inexpensive places (foodlife, Mity Nice Grill), as well as at Maggiano's, even though that's no longer part of LEY. It also means that, if they don't use the entire gift card, they can use the remaining balance elsewhere rather than having to go back to the same place. One final benefit - if you buy gift cards in November and December, for every $100 you buy, they give an additional slightly-restricted bonus card of $25, so that stretches the dollars you spend. As you can see, there are a lot of advantages of LEY gift cards over those from individual restaurants. You can buy them on the LEY website at www.leye.com
To answer the specific question above, though... In recent dinners, I've spent $80 per person, including moderate alcohol and tax/tip, both at Piccolo Sogno and at Girl and the Goat.
