Dinner for parents - Moneky Bar?

Looking for a restaurant for my parents - they are foodies in the sense that they like to try new restaurants, but they aren't looking for a "scene" - for example, they'd love to try Locanda Verde but it's way to crazy for them. I was thinking Monkey Bar since it's under new management?

Haven't been to the Monkey Bar, so I can't comment.

Can you expand on exactly what you are looking for? Since you mention Locanda Verde -- which I won't go to because of the very high noise level -- do you want another Italian option? Have your parents been to Ciano? It's our current favorite Italian. The food is superb, the wine program is excellent, service is attentive, and the relaxed atmospherics are not "crazy."

Monkey Bar would be perfect. It combines Old New York nostalgia with excellent food, flawless service and an adult take on cocktails.

Take this from a 55-year-old "scene hater".

For example ... you won't catch me dead in Dans le Noir ... in *any* city it's in!

Glad to know there is another one out there. You must let me know where I can go to not be seen.

Ah there are so many. My current love is The Beagle in the East Village for the magic it does with food and cocktail pairings and for the way the staff makes everyone feel instantly at home.

But don't tell anyone lest it become a "scene".
