Calphalon Unison d/w safe pans

I want to buy one for my Dad, who puts everything in the dishwasher. However, in reading the reviews on WS, I am a little hesitant. Lots of people reported warping. Has anyone used them and has an opinion? We have an electric flat top stove (yuck.)

    Hi EM,

Since no one has answered. I will give it my best attempt

I have used other Calphalon aluminum based pans, but not the Calphalon. I don't think it will be different when it comes to the warping question. It is possible to warp Calphalon aluminum pan even though it is unlikely. More importantly, I think it is more likely the Calphalon cookware were wrapped during and right after cooking on the stove, and not inside a dishwasher. I don't think the temperature change in a dishwasher is enough to wrap one of these thick pans.

      Thanks Chem.

I did think they were warping on the stove, and that's what I'm concerned about. I mean, what's the point in buying a pan that will warp whilst it's over heat?

I was then thinking Scanpan. It's cheaper, too.

Our scanpan lost its nonstick qualities and when I called to ask about advice or replacement (under the lifetime guarantee) they said the pans are not meant to ever be used at high heat (and use at high heat voids the warranty). I feel like what's the point in buying a pan you aren't supposed to use over high heat.

"they said the pans are not meant to ever be used at high heat (and use at high heat voids the warranty)"

Well, the Scanpan has PTFE (same as Teflon) on it, and PTFE has a temperature limit. So you really cannot use it over high temperature just like any Teflon cookware. If you really want to cook at high temperatures, then you just have to look elsewhere.
