Batter Dispenser - any advice?

I'm considering buying a batter dispenser to quickly make cupcakes and avoid the mess. I'm not much of a gadget person, but these have peeked my interest. Are they worth it? Any brand you would recommend?

I was using a large pastry bag effectively - with no mess!

I also recently bought a candy dispenser with a trigger release from bulk barn but I havent tried it yet for batter.

I use an ice cream scoop--the kind with the lever. Available at the restaurant supply in a variety of sizes. I think my most used is a #16.

+1 #16/3oz. scoop I also use it to distribute batter around the tube in an angel food or a bundt pan. And if you use one to fill layer cake pans alternating a scoop in each, you get even layers.

Look for one with a 4 tablespoon scoop. The Norpro 56mm scoop is a good example.

Thanks for the tips everyone, looks like I have a few options to try first to see if I really need another gadget!

Agree with other posters. You can always use another tools instead of a dedicated batter dispenser.
