Word is that this year is an excellent harvest. Prices here on the Cape are routinely 19.99 per pound where as last year the price never dipped below $29.99.

Do I have to go take pictures this year. :)

End of last week price spiked. I'm paying $17 from Nantucket.

btw, did you ever look further into that 'no fresh ankimo' issue?

I just called Intershell. They have plenty of fresh ankimo. No problems on their end.

            Intershell: 978-281-2523 ask for Steve.

Bought some from Courthouse Seafood yesterday (didn't see any at New Deal) and they were excellent. Also $23.99/lb.

hey hounds,>>> You close your eyes and a chef serves you nantucket and 'day boat' sea scallops (and any other kinds). As you eat them, what distinguishes them from each other? thnx much.

The Nantucket, sweeter more tender, pop in your mouth raw.Divers denser and of course with both fresher the better.

Size too. Nantucket bay scallops are notably smaller than size than normal sea scallops, assuming you aren't getting a dish that requires mangling the scallops up beforehand. But absolutely - the Nantucket scallops were so sweet (in a good way) that I don't think I've had many other seafoods with that munch of a punch in flavor.

Threads come up pretty much annually as the season begins, with discussion of distinguishing characteristics. For example:
