Raku on Olympic closed?

Drove by last night and noticed a new sign with a different name. What's the story?

Dissenting opinion from me on this one...

I, for one, am quite sad to see Raku go. Raku has made me a happy diner many, many times before, but Yabu Pico hasn't.

Perhaps I should hit the Yabu La Cienega location.

Is the Raku Plus location still active in Little Tokyo?

New owners but supposedly the same menu.

Just back from my morning constitutional pedaling and noticed that the new name is Wara Ya and using that found this little blurb in Grub Street LA regarding the change: http://losangeles.grubstreet.com/2011...

Place link for the newly morphed Wara Ya (out of the old Raku) added to the CH database.

*whew* scared me for a second. The dyslexic (and idiot) in me always confuses Raku with Yabu.

Never understand Raku, always thought it'd go out of biz soon. Over dressed, over sauced faux sashimi + izakaya dishes mixed with Korean dishes (and Korean owners). Won't be missed.

I think Raku downtown is still around. Yabu has seriously gone downhill (food and service) since I started going there about 8 years ago so I don't think I would miss it if it closed either. I swore it off after the last 3 bad to mediocre lunches. Still looking for a good all-around Japanese joint with easy parking on the westside that I can drop in for a quick weekday lunch. (This has nothing to do w/ Raku since they weren't open for lunch anyway and I'd only been there a couple of times and didn't have a strong opinion about it... just happened to notice the name change.)

I agree regarding Yabu Pico but Yabu La Cienega remains a solid destination, IMHO.

I love Raku Restaurant! I've been following Panja since her restaurant was on La Cienega in WeHo (before she relocated it to Olympic Blvd.) And now Panja is at the helm of the downtown Raku where her cooking is as delicious as it ever was.
