  1. Oh man! Well, this topic probably deserves its own thread, but I'd definitely be interested in hearing if they've relocated. Now I feel guilty for only ever buying aguas frescas from them (unless I'm in the mood for a breakfast burrito) and buying my tacos elsewhere.

A month ago I saw the second Ojo de Agua truck in its usual spot near the San Leandro border.

      Has anyone tried calling them?

El Ojo is at Derby & International, a block from 30th, in a vacant lot.

Thank you, I've changed the coordinates for the Restaurants & Bars map. Is the lot right on the corner? Google street view shows a used car lot called Half Price Auto.

          Edited: removed map link

Melanie, maybe it's because I'm on a slow connection, but I've tried the above link on both Firefox and Internet Explorer, latest versions, and in both, the link doesn't take me anywhere, it just shows me a map of North America.

            1. re: tpc

Clicking on that map link takes me to a map of santa rosa, ca! The search terms in the url are correct for the oakland coordinates but I guess it's dynamic. I've removed the link in the post above. You should be able to replicate it by searching for a map of International Blvd and Derby St Oakland, CA, and then select street view.

looks like it's in the former used car lot. the cars are no longer there.

        2. el ojo de agua is in the south west corner of Derby and International. The building there is painted with an el ojo de agua logo and the truck in the parking lot still has the old address and the great tacos and horchata's. It looks like el ojo de agua has found a permanent home a couple of blocks from their old place. Not quite as convient as the original but not far away

Thanks for the updated location. Will try to stop by during the holidays.

          2. As Sunday night's Bourbon party and cookie exchange in the Oakland hills came to a close, the slightly tipsy partiers turned to me for a rec for some late night protein nearby. My quick call to the El Ojo de Agua Taco Truck confirmed a closing time of 10pm. We had a shot on making it to Fruitvale in time. I headed out first and flipped a u-turn to pull into the gated lot. The truck is positioned close to the International Blvd sidewalk with two tables for eating there. I deferred on ordering, telling the order taker that I'd wait until my friends arrived.

Soon the young man called out to me from his truck perch, "Your friends, they are here!" And indeed the caravan of four cars was pulling in to park in front of the car wash office.

None of the party-goers, mostly from San Francisco, nor our Oakland host had ever been to this truck before. I described the recent alarm over the missing truck as "panic in needle park", and how happy we were to find its new spot.

Here's the menu, and I pointed out to the crowd that the Alambre, $10, is my favorite order, but I'd need two other people to share it with me.

My new friend, Mario who is from Mexico City, had never heard of this and took care of ordering one for us to share. And he was happy to find Mexican Coke here too. Less cheese melted over (the "stringy" alambre) and the meats were a bit tired at this time of night, but doused with the excellent red and green salsas and folded into corn tortillas, it hit the spot. This box weighed several pounds, and Mario enjoyed it with much gusto, saying he wished there was something like this closer to his FiDi office.

Some of the San Franciscans, though taco truck vets, had trouble with Fruitvale level of spicing. A round of licuados, despite the cold of night, was in order to quench the flames.

The owner came by at the end of the night, and I learned that the truck has been in this new location for a month now. I told him how worried his fans were when it disappeared. He asked me to let all my friends know about the new location (and car wash). So there you go.

            1. Has anyone had a nuez licuado there recently? Last few times I've tried they haven't been available.

              1. Has anyone spotted the original Ojo de Agua truck lately? A friend reports that he has not seen it at Derby & International for quite a while.

I've tried calling the various phone numbers on the web:
                510-535-9310
                510-536-4036
                510-536-4034
                510-635-9899

None of those are El Ojo de Agua. The owner's cell phone had been in the ditched Places restaurant database, and may well be one of those, but I did not save it in my own records.

For that matter, has anyone been to El Ojo de Agua #2 lately?

                El Ojo de Agua #2
Corner of 104 and E 14th (International Blvd.)
                510-377-8674

I tried calling that number but the outgoing message says not available and call again later.

On this thread Ruth mentioned Ojo de Agua had moved but didn't say where http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/923199

                  1. re: grayelf

Yes, it wasn't clear to me whether she meant the recent move or the move in 2011 referenced in this thread. Perhaps she can illuminate us.

                  2. re: Melanie Wong

When it comes to taco trucks, I have only one question. Is the carnitas as good as Tacos Sinaloa's is? So far the answer is always no.

                    1. re: essvee

I really like the carnitas at El Novillo. And to answer Melanie's question, I was referring to the 2011 move. I haven't seen it around recently.

                    2. re: Melanie Wong

Luke Tsai of the East Bay Express and Cyrus Farivar of Ars Technica and California Taco Trucks collaborated to track down owner Salvador Anaya and find out what's going on. The oven and stove on the Fruitvale truck both broke so it is out for repair. He hopes to be back in business in two or three weeks, but can't say for sure. El Ojo de Agua #2 is unaffected and is in operation.

Looking at this piece, there appears to be yet another phone number, 510-334-1034, and I suspect that's the one I've used in the past.
