Best Picks in Aventura & Hallendale, FL - Holidays 2011/2012
This is my first post on Chowhound, but my wife and I are hardcore foodies that have been using Chowhound to find great restaurants from New York to Eureka, Or - big cities to small towns coast to coast. As a local resident of Aventura, I figured it was time to give something back.
Whether you're in Aventura for shopping at the mall, gambling at the race track, or just visiting other locals, one thing you'll find as a foodie is restaurant chains. Lots of restaurant chains and referrals to go to restaurant chains. Never fear, Aventura really does have great food, if you know where to look.
You can't beat Rendez-vous Bakery Bistro for a great sidewalk seating breakfast. Not elegant but not nasty either, this small sidewalk dining french bakery has the best plates in Aventura. Fresh pastries that blow the other chains away. Service is polite but genuinely french. The latte is worth a second cup.
Location is 17851 biscayne blvd, tucked away in a plaza between Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza and Ace Hardware.
Breakfast Runner up: Mo's Bagels Inc - for amazing bagels and lox. The rest of the breakfast items fall pretty far short of a trip to the Cheesecake factory, or Panera, for that matter.
location: 2772 Northeast 187th Street. (305) 936-8555
For the best food in Aventura, you've got to discover" Something Different". This place might be Aventura's best kept secret. The owner is also the chef and her food is amazing. service is warm and friendly. This place is new, clean and nice in a casual way but it isn't elegant. Almost everything here is great, but the Prociutto Panini is to die for. The empanadas are also AMAZING, they're made fresh to order and blow even half moon bakery out of the water.
This place is a little tough to find, because it's a little new and doesn't have a sign on the building above it. Its in the Win-Dixie shopping center near win-dixie between the chiropractor and the dental office.
Address: 20475 Biscayne Blvd. #7-8, Aventura, FL 33180
Telephone: 305-935-0097 (they also deliver
Pulling away from the casual, i've got to recommend Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak for dinner. Its pricey, but the atmosphere is perfectly classy, the food is amazing, and the service is excellent. For a lighter dinner, try the eating in the lounge on Friday night to enjoy some live (classy) piano singing with your meal.
Located within the Turnberry Resort across from the mall,, you don't need to be staying there to enjoy this great restaurant.
Dinner Runner Up: "Thira, A taste of the Greek Isles" - Authentic Greek food, nice inside but less pricy than bourbon steak or ocean prime. Great greek food - if you like Greek. Spices, wines and service are all authentic.
Nearby the Gulfstream track and Casio but across the street from it:
location: 100 South Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, FL. 33009
Thanks again Chowhound! Hopes this helps some of you plan a better visit, or maybe just discover a few gems if you're local.
re: The Chowfather
I don't know how Thira lasted as long as they did . They consistently served up the most rancid smelling fish I've ever had the misfortune of smelling ... And I'm talking from a few tables away... I have even heard of fights with management when they wouldn't take the fish off the bill!
re: The Chowfather
Sorry for the misinformation regarding Thira - it was a runner up so its been a few months since we ate there. It must have closed very recently. As for the quality of food I stand by my assessment that it was still leagues better than anything you'd find at any of the chain restaurants that are in the area. All other recommendations are verified current.
