Lunch in Westwood area

We've been out of LA area for 7 years. Need to find a good restaurant for lunch close to Westwood. Santa Monica and Beverly Hills are too far traffic wise

  1. Probably helps to specify cuisines/food likes/dislikes, budget, etc. With that said, the Westwood area is deep in Persian food. Shamshiri on Westwood Blvd. is very high on price/quality ratio, and has a more than acceptable dining area.

    1. For great sandwitches Fundamental LA has some of the best in the city at this tiny creative spot. Menu changes daily. Very nice people run it too. Highly recommended.

        Really good lemonade, too.

More interesting wine selection than many restaurants too!

      2. Recently enjoyed lunch in the Wolfgang Puck Cafe in the courtyard in the Hammer. Small menu: salads, sandwich and a couple of entrees based on local produce. If you are doing a business lunch or a getting-back-together lunch in which food is not meant to be the centerpiece, this is a solid pick. There are a lot of ethnic restaurants on Westwood south of Wilshire. Besides the aforementioned Persian, there is Emporium Thai, owned by the sister of Jazz of Jitlada fame, as well as Greek, Japanese and Indian.

        1. Tavern in adjacent Brentwood is excellent (if a bit pricey) or, if you want more casual (order at the counter and find a table) there is the exemplary Clementine. Westside Tavern in the Westside Pavillion is also quite good. I have not been back in quite a while but I had a good lunch at Craft in Century City (very pricey, though).

          1. Feast from the East has great Chinese Chicken salads. My husband loved Enzo's for their chicken parm when he was an undergrad there.

            1. For Italian there's Pastina and La Bruschetta. For decent Chinese in the area there's Mandarin Kitchen. All of these are on Westwood Blvd. For Japanese options there are many on Sawtelle between Olympic and Santa Monica: Kiriko for excellent sushi; Tsujita for superb ramen and Ramenya for excellent grilled skewers and bento boxes.

Tanino is a lovely place for lunch. It is in the heart of Westwood.

              2. Fresh Corn Grill on Westwood Boulevard

Mary and Robbs Westwood Cafe is a nice coffee shop type lunch that feels vaguely old school in a nice sort of way.

                1. Clementine's is terrific if you want a casual cafe with very good food. But it gets very crowded at lunch time. Smith House has opened recently. I've only had the hamburgers, and they're very good. The menu has changed, and they haven't been open very long. Don't know if that's a bad sign.
