ideas for a Tuesday birthday dinner in Berkeley-Oakland

Suggestions for a birthday dinner for 4? Not the good old standbys like Chez Panisse or Bay Wolf, excellent though they may be. Not too noisy, lots of vegetable options, good wine list. Lalime's isn't open on Tuesday. Any new finds?

Have you been to Origen? Still so close to opening - based on my dinner there I'd say give the kitchen time to work out the glitches before spending a birthday.

        Gathers a good option.

Five in the Shattuck Hotel usually has a couple of vegetarian entrees, plus starters, salads, and sides to choose from - a greater selection than many local places with similarly sized menus. Tables are very well spaced, only real noise issue is the soaring ceiling.

Pizzaiolo is the noisiest restaurant I've ever been in.

hmm. never had that much of a problem carrying on a conversation. tho i do admit, it's always pretty lively - i did miss that about noise in the OP's post.

I'd love to eat there more often but every single time I was in there, we had to shout at each other. Maybe it's been a few years now and things have died down a bit?

Camino is a great place for a bd dinner. You can definitely hold a conversation, and there are lovely veg options.

Yes, but Camino is closed on Tuesdays.
