Bread? Pastries?
This is pretty far but Masse's in Berkeley is outstanding. Worth the trip for pastry. No bread. You might want to look over La Bedaine if and when you're on this side of the Caldecott.

City of Delights (it should be City deLights) in San Ramon, near the north city limits off San Ramon Valley Blvd, for pastries.
For baguettes, go to a Bui Phong bakery.

City deLights sounds great! I will visit both. Thanks for your reply.

I haven't been in San Ramon in awhile. It seems that City D'Lights has moved and changed its name:

Cafe Pascal on Railroad Ave. in Danville.

Next time I go to Danville, I will stop at Cafe Pascal. Thanks!

I show the name of that place as Pascal French Oven, although their web address is pascalcafe.com. I find several of their things to be "best of type". If I'm in that area it's a mandatory stop, although I haven't been there for a few years. I can't find or add a Places entry, so ...

I just read on Yelp that Pascal French Oven has new owners, I think since early 2011. Does anyone have experience there since then?

La Boulange is a local chain. Pastries and food items are excellent, I have never tried the bread.
Danville location is by the Lunardis Market on Railroad, the new Walnut Creek location is by the mall in the old Bing Crosbys space.
