My friend is interested in the location with the fireplace on 37th. She wants a quaint steakhouse. She saw the picture on-line. What do you all think? I had reservations at BLT Prime, but just cancelled them for this place. Thanks,...

This is probably a 3rd tier steak house. Go to Keen's instead.

I have only been to the location in Rye, NY and it's pretty solid. I'm not a huge fan of steakhouses in that I prefer the apps, sides and lobster to beef but at least the Rye locations does this all well. I'm not a big fan of BLT either. Only thing that is tasty to me there is the popovers.

I've been to Keen's twice now. I wanted to try someplace different. We are seeing a show also.

37th St. is a nice location and it is a just a tad below the top tier steakhouses, worth a try.

I went to the 45th street branch last night for dinner. Not because it was a steakhouse, however, but because it was very convenient for after (7PM) theater. We arrived ~ 9:30, and it was almost empty. It deserved to be. I think thegforceny was being kind - I would rate it 5th tier, unless there is a lower one, at least at this location. Even the side dishes lacked flavor - and it is a challenge to create bad garlic mashed potatoes.

I had a terrific steak at the 37th Street Frankie & Johnny's. And to namedrop without dropping the name, I even saw a NY Times, Four Star chef dining next to me. But if I had my choice, I would also go to Keen's. Still, you won't go wrong at F&J's at 37th St.

The chef at 37th may be far superior. And to be fair, we were driven by close proximity to The Music Box theater and after theater hunger, not the steak. But I have had some very good seafood and vegetarian options at steakhouses - and therefore thought that the grilled sole would be fine. It arrived mushy and without the lovely crisp outer crust you get from grilling, coated in paprika but with little other seasoning, and was, frankly, devoid of any flavor at all. I was hungry enough to eat it, but couldn't eat the side of spinach I ordered. It too was absolutely flavorless - I asked for lemon but that didn't help. My husband thought it tasted frozen, I just thought it was poor quality and less than fresh.
