Anniversary Dinner for 10 in Bethesda / Rockville / Potomac

My wife and I are visiting Washington from the San Francisco area to celebrate her parents' 50th wedding anniversary. We are trying to organize a family dinner for 10 (ages 8 to 88, 4 kids, 4 adults, 2 super-adults) in Bethesda or Rockville for the week between Christmas and New Years. No specific preference for food types, but nothing way adventurous. Suggestions gratefully accepted.

  1. Ruths Chris Steakhouse, Mortons steakhouse.
All are in Bethesda. I love Ruths Chris Bethesda and think it is great for special occasions. Great food service and ambience...not sure why it doesn't get more recognition

    1. Not far from Bethesda in Cleveland Park is Dino - very good new Italian - they have a room as well as a semi-private "grotto" area and if you give them enough time, you could probably reserve. We've taken my 90+ year old grandparents there and they enjoyed it very much - excellent wine, excellent dessert.

Just throwing that out there in case location is flexible within reason! Congrats to them on 50 years!

      1. Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant, Rockville, get an order of their garlic frebch fries, good food, IMHO, decent prices!

        1. You might want to look at Clyde's Tower Oaks Lodge as a possibility. It isn't cutting edge food, but might fit your situation. Attractive dining rooms, American style menu, reservations are available, my parents think it's special (meaning folks in their 70s who are rather frugal), and kids won't be out of place. The Clyde's group of restaurants don't get much love here on Chowhound, but this could work well for your multi-generation occaision.

Hope you all have a great visit!

Clydes can be very noisy at prime dinner time in the Tack Room which is the only room that will be able to hold that many people. I was there with 8 family members the other night and it was terribly noisy and it was a Tuesday night. It makes it difficult to have a conversation.

          2. Tragara's has a small private room up front that is perfect for this size. They will custom a menu for you. Recco: Start with a sample of 2 or 3 pastas. Then maybe a filet of beef. with some accompanying vegetables. Finish with a tiramisu and champagne. Perfect. Easy. Elegant.
