Hi fellow 'hounders! I searched the board, but didn't find anything written up about Okoze, a small neighborhood sushi bar in Russian Hill on Union and Hyde. My husband and I tried it out last night. I'm terrible at food writeups, but I just wanted to post and say we were plesantly surprised. Jam packed at 7:00 on a Thursday night, but our service was still very attentive. I ordered the Omakase sushi dinner: 12 pieces of nigiri, a small roll, 2 pieces of ebi tempura, and miso soup, all for $40.
The miso was actually very rich. I'm not sure if it's authentic or not, but it's the first miso soup that actually tasted like anything to me. The nigiri was 11 pieces of fish (didn't ask what was what) and 1 scallop. The scallop was to die for and the majority of the fish was very fresh. Some of the pieces had what I call "toppings" on them, chopped scallion, a little ponzu, etc but only a few. My husband and I will definitely come back.
Lots written but little recent. I guess the neighbors want to keep it secret.
