Milo and Olive Open and Menu posted Online
Milo and Olive, the latest venture from Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan is now open in the eastern part of Santa Monica, Wilshire and Harvard. I stopped in there yesterday (opening day of full menu offerings) and was impressed by the warm ambiance. I was in a rush, so only had time to buy 3 homemade sesame bagels (which were perfect in size, taste and texture) and a loaf of the whole grain bread which I have been buying at Huckleberry and is a staple in our home. Also, picked up a menu and lots of great looking choices. The menu went up online today. Can't wait to pop in for lunch or dinner or even pick up a to-go order. Parking may be an issue. Don't even consider parking at The Tinder Box. Just metered parking on Wilshire. . Edited to add that Josh and Amy own Rustic Canyon, Huckleberry and Sweet Rose Creamery.

Was there over the weekend, had a great lunch!! Really excellent salad of arugula/radicchio with an anchovy/garlic dressing, light and lemony and refreshing. My son loved the bonconccini with anchovies and olives, and I saved the pickled peppers (freshly picked by Peter, I'm sure) for the pizza margherita. Pizza was great, with a deep, hearty sauce that is different than most, much less acidic and a nice change IMO. I think we now have so much "zaa" in our fair city that I appreciate a little differentiation. Crust great, not as crisp, rustic or charred (in a good way) as you might get at P Mozza but more so that Antica was doing. It did have a little of the sogginess issue in the center "mid pizza", but we just waited a bit for the cheese to firm up some and all was good. I wouldn't even call it a knock. Excellent pear tart dessert, too, custardy, rich though not too much so, and not oversweetened.
Very nice folks and they took great care of us. Owner Zoe and chef from Rustic Canyon were there making sure all was running OK, so they definitely care and are delivering, in my opinion! Not a ton of space inside for seating - maybe 8 seats at the bar and 2 big communal tables. This is a great spot, well worth a visit. I'd recommend off hours for an easier time getting seated (but would say the same about P Mozza).

re: CulverJack
Since my original post, I have now tried the pork belly pizza and the mushroom pizza
The pork belly pizza is one of the best dishes I have tried in years. Highly recommended! The mushroom pizza was also delicious but not as exciting. Love this restaurant. Still have only gotten my food to go, but fortunately, I live close enough that the pizzas were still hot when I got home. Oh yes, I also had that pear tart. CulverJack's description was right on. It was excellent.

Still haven't tried the pizza, but as I look at the folks at the communal tables eating , they all look so happy. Another rushed day, so I ordered for 2 for take-out. Chicken meatballs were zesty, fresh and 3 meatballs per order. These were not Huckleberry's turkey meatballs. Milo an Olive's chicken meatballs were smaller and more delicate. Our other take-out dish was the homemake pork sausage with Cannellini Beans. Wonderful flavors. In retrospect, a salad would have been appropriate. However, we wanted a delicious light meal and we got great food , great bread and we ate this delicious meal at home. All items were packed beautifully, What a great addition to the Brentwood, Montana Ave, S.M. neighborhood. Josh and Zoe bring such great energy to all of their endeavors.
