Help! Last minute Saturday night for visiting guests! Downtown (EV?) please!

JBHungryLady Dec 1, 2011 06:33 PM

Hi- a party of 5 will be in town on saturday night. I was thinking East Village Korzo Haus, but they only have seats at the bar (which I don't want, because I want to be able to talk and look at everyone), and I don't want to do an hour wait, so I'd like a place that I can get a reservation. We love GOOD food, and I want my guests to see cool NY places that they can't see in Chicago (where they are coming from). Also, I need somewhere we can get in. I like the idea of a low-key place where we can drink and catch up. Nothing too expensive (nothing over 40 per/person including drinks).

HELP in advance!

On Saturday go to ny.eater.com and you'll find a last-minute Saturday night reservation guide. They go through everything on open table and make a list of the good restaurants that still have tables.

However, the ones they pull are typically upscale, more expensive (and not usually the "cool") restaurants, where it'll be hard to come in at $40pp including drinks.

$40pp including drinks? Do you mean cocktails? Or beer and wine? Given that it's difficult to say how much people will drink, it is easier to make recommendations if you give a food-only cost. You can easily spend $40 on 2-3 cocktails nowadays...

How about Forcella for deep fried Naples style pizza?

East Village, cool, Saturday at a table. Anything will be better than Chicago, so no worry there.
Indochine is a nice place ( not sure how cool it is , it used to be cool). Robataya is kind of cool.
Lucien on 1st and 1st has good food for under $40 but it's a small place. Jack's luxury oyster bar is real small but has good food under $40. Maybe Zaab Elee for Thai food. You can venture to the lower east side and go to Spitzer's, inoteca, or Stanton Social all under $40.
