  1. I haven't tried the $40-$60+ deluxe versions available at Pusateri's and Grande Cheese, but I might try one this year. Grande Cheese on Orfus Road had over two dozen different panettones and at least a dozen different pandoros, in different price ranges and sizes, with different flavours and fillings, ranging from a few bucks up to a hundred.

For an $11 panettone, I like the Bauli version just fine. La Salumeria also has a good selection.

I haven't tried any Pandoros, since we always have bought Panettone. Maybe this will be the year I buy a Pandoro.

I stopped by Lady York today, and the Bauli Panettone was $7.99. Lady York was selling at least a dozen different pandoros, and around 3 dozen different panettones near the back of the store, offering more options in the $10-$29 range, including over a dozen different varieties (fig & chocolate, candied chestnut , apricot , sour cherry , fruits of the forest , lemon , moscato, etc, in addition to the classic raisin & candied peel) in the $29-$39 range. There's even a "light" panettone being sold, with a calorie count of less than 200 calories per 1/12th panettone, compared to the typical 290-300 calories in a slice.

Lady York also is selling a wide variety of nougats/torrones right now- at least a half dozen different brands, and over a dozen different varieties.

    2. I am far from an expert, but have tried many of the less expensive versions ($5-$20 range). Of these, Tre Marie has been my favourite. The bread bit is not cloyingly sweet and nicely balances between dry and moist.

I'd be interested to hear about the more expensive versions to see if there is something worth upgrading to.

      1. I'm curious about the $49 (?) pistachio one available at Longo's (saw it at the Maple Leaf Square flagship). It comes with a jar of pistachio paste for spreading. Has anyone tried it?

          I'm curious, too.

Has anyone tried any of the $40+ Panettones or Pandoros this year or last?
