Merit Veggie Place Chinese Vegetarian/Vegan in El Monte

Since this board gets an occasional inquiry for Chinese vegetarian and vegan food I thought I'd mention this place. It's not really a restaurant, but rather a Chinese vegetarian/vegan product store with a kitchen in back. Indeed, most of their business appears to be people picking up one of six lunch special items to go. There are four mock meat combos, a veggie plate, and a sesame noodle dish, all running between $6 and $7. The store, while quite small, has a number of interesting items including fake sea bass and, would you believe, fake Fuzhou fish balls. The latter is made with yam flour and soy protein. Merrit Veggie Place is at 11022 Lower Azusa Road at Santa Anita. I do not know if it has anything to do with Merit Grove Vegetarian which had a long run on Garvey in the 1990s.
