80th Birthday Dinner Suggestions

We will be spending four days in NYC for my mom's 80th. Group will include my very active mom, her four daughters, and seven granddaughters (in their teens and early 20s). We are looking for a nice place for a birthday dinner for Monday, December 19. We are staying at Park and 60th but are flexible on location. Don't want to go over the top on price but want a nice dinner. Most important that it not be too loud. A view would be nice but not essential. No dietary restrictions. Thanks for any suggestions!

Twelve people is a pretty large group for Manhattan, and you may need to book in a private dining room with a food/beverage minimum and a prix fixe menu. But a private dining room will definitely help with any noise issues.

What's your budget, per person, before tax, tip, and any drinks/wine for those of age? Don't forget that with a group that size, you may incur an automatic 20% gratuity, and sales tax here is nearly 9%.

Does your mom have a favorite cuisine?

I'd like to think we can keep it around 50-65 per person but could go a bit more. She is treating for hotel and transportation---so we do want to have a nice dinner. We probably want to do continental/American food versus ethnic for this dinner. Thanks for asking.

Maybe the place up at Columbia on top of a building. You'd arrange a car service to and from. nice setting, service, food (not dramatic or innovative, but nice); festive. I was at a 90th birthday party there years ago; one long table was used. There was good sound level, a few friendly toasts.

I'm hoping another ch-er will post the name of the place.

Do you mean Terrace in the Sky? I don't think it would fit OP's budget - and even if it did, their food isn't worth it. My dinner there not too long ago was rather mediocre.
