Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

I realize this question gets asked a lot, but I'm looking for a restaurant that can seat 20-30 for a birthday dinner

Last year we went to Alta and did the whole shebang... and it was great! This year I'm going to have more people, and wouldn't mind doing something a little cheaper. Any ideas?

  1. Bobby Vans on 54th or so has a nice back room
    Loi on W70th used to be Compass which had some good private spaces (Loi just opened so I have no idea about the food)
    Peking Duck House has a good back room
    There is a nice balcony at EMP (but that is more than Alta)

    1. Did a birthday party in the back room at Lupa for about 28 people. Food was excellent as was the wine selection.
