Hart House in the summer?
We're looking at booking Hart House (Great Hall) for our wedding in July or September, but our main hesitation is that there is no air conditioning. They say there are two options:
1) Put fans in the rooms, or
2) Get a truck to pump in cool air.
Does anyone know if either of these work well and are pleasant? I'm worried they either aren't effective or are loud and annoying. July in 2011 had temps in the mid-30s so we need to be prepared for heat. We're 180 people, so I'm also concerned that many bodies will heat up the place.
We really love the venue but we just don't want our guests to melt ;) Thanks for your advice!

My brother had his reception at Hart House the second weekend in September about 10 years ago. It was probably 30C outside (unexpected for September) and unbearably hot inside. The fans did not make it feel better. I would not recommend a reception at Hart House with just fans running.
I remember the heat, not the room.

Hart House gets pretty hot in the summer. I've been to events there that took the fans options, and while they weren't too loud, it can be both obtrusive (it takes powerful fans to move the air in that room) and ineffective (hard to reach everyone) at the same time.
In all of my experiences (weddings, banquets, concerts, meetings), there were definitely points that started to become borderline unbearable, especially when people are sitting around listening to speeches, or when dancing started. It is a beautiful venue, though, and you get access to the courtyard. If people are free to move around, it's easy to step out and get some fresh air during an evening event.
I can't speak to the truck option, but that might be more of a budget decision.
