Chorizo on UWS (Grocery Store)

Just recently moved from Sunnyside to this area, and yesterday was a total failure in trying to find fresh chorizo. Trader Joe's had none. Associated on 99th (which sold tons of different kinds at their Sunnyside store) had zilch. Gristedes had nothing. And Fairway only had a ridiculous deal for three tiny sausages for $8. I know the Fairway on 125th has it, as I used to live up there, but was hoping if anyone knew of a good place on the UWS that had fresh chorzio for a decent price. Citarella, perhaps?

  1. By fresh chorizo I assume you mean not-dried chorizo. Fresh chorizo is sold either at the meat counters of all the supermarkets, or brand packaged. As a lover of chorizo, I've found that the very BEST is made by D'ARTAGAN (sp?). It is sold at Gourmet Garage on Broadway / 96 Street, and probably at Fairway and a few other places as well.

    1. Are you looking for Mexican chorizo or Spanish chorizo? You can get good Spanish chorizos from DespaƱa at Zabar's. As far as Mexican chorizos, those are harder to find. Whole Foods has them, but their soyrizo product is better than the pork. Western Beef may be your best bet, but to be honest I find mostly Dominican chorizos in this part of the UWS. To find the Mexican variety, you may need to head to a Mexican store like La Paloma on 100th Street or the Mexican places on 9th/10th Ave in HK to find what you want. It is also not difficult to make chorizo if you plan on crumbling it anyway.
