Wasabi mayo & mustard.

Can anyone suggest where I can purchase wasabi mayo and mustard?

I have seen wasabi mayo at Galleria Supermarket and J town (wasn't impressed). Also I just make my own by mixing mayo with the wasabi I get from J town. Its Japanese name is real wasabi (much stronger stuff as its made from the real root and has different look and texture) It is closer to the real wasabi you get from grinding the root as does have some preservers.

if you want some real wasabi powder you might be able to get some from this site.

If you want to try something totally lacking in authenticity but very delicious, give The Pickle Guy's WOW Wasabi Sauce a try. I've bought it and enjoyed it, but don't currently see it on the company's website: http://thepickleguy.com/index.html

I've seen some at Pusateri's (the Avenue Road gross one), but I've never purchased it, so I can't say if it's any good.

Thanks for the replies. I remember getting the mustard at some supermarket but I haven't seen it anywhere lately. The mayo I think was from Sanko, so maybe I'll start there.

EXTREME caution here - MOST of the wasabi powders (and pre-prepared) I've seen are actually horseradish. I currently have some 'genuine' stuff - but think I found it in California.
I recall checking at T&T a couple of years ago and they had no 'genuine' wasabi - things may have changed. Just check the ingredients carefully.

estu, you're definitely right, but when you consider that no wasabi root was harmed in the making of 99% of the prepared "wasabi flavoured" mayo/mustard that you buy, the idea of subbing in the powdered horseradish product isn't that out there :)

I guess it depends on whether the O.P. is looking for wasabi or the horseradish served at many (most?) places.

I would suggest that you buy wasabi powder in a tin. You can get this at asian grocery stores (PAT or H mart or T&T to name a few). I have also seen wasabi powder at Diana's Seafood. For the mayo mix the powder into the mayo to taste and for the mustard just mix the powder with water until it forms a paste.

i was going to say the same thing, but i would suggest rehydrating the powder with water for both. you can get a bit of a gritty taste/mouthfeel if you just mix the powder straight in, and you don't get the full flavour kick
