40th Birthday Lunch Place

  • 12
  • Share

I'm turning 40 on Tuesday and am taking the day off work to shop with my mom. I'd like to go to lunch some place very pretty with good food. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! (We'll be all over town so flexible on locale.)

  1. Tuesday? As in this coming Tuesday?

What's your budget per person on food only (before tax and tip)? Any cuisine preferences?

        Okay, some possibilities:

Bouley - http://flic.kr/p/a8uo6H I would pick this place to go with my own mom if it were me.

        Jean Georges - http://flic.kr/p/aw4j2p
        Tocqueville - http://flic.kr/p/aaBCor
        La Grenouille - http://flic.kr/p/7ZeM8o
        The Modern - http://flic.kr/p/ae11o6
Eleven Madison Park - http://flic.kr/p/abgyFM Might be too late to get a reservation.
        Forcella - http://flic.kr/p/aE7ujE

One of these things (Forcella -- a pizza joint) is not like the others (DP, Bouley, Tocqueville). I mean, it's really good, but much more casual than the others!

Yeah, Forcella is very casual, but I do like the room and think it's very pretty. :)

Thank you!! I can't wait to pick one.

It may be tough getting a rez on such short notice but try calling (don't always go by what Opentable shows): Eleven Madison Park (beautiful room and flower arrangements), Jean-George (not Nougatine), Toqueville (very classy and refined), The Dining Room at The Modern (looking out on to the sculpture garden - beautiful)

When someone says "pretty room," I immediately think of La Grenouille. Had another delicious lunch there recently. Definitely a wonderful place to celebrate a special birthday.

                Thank you so much!

Just bear in mind that La Grenouille is not casual, so depending on what you're wearing for shopping...
