unheavy, unnoisy inexpensive dinner within 5 miles of lincoln park

  • 4

Hello Chicago Chowhounds,

By inexpensive I'm talking about less than $30 per person including entree, drink and maybe shared appetizer or dessert, also including tax & tip. By unheavy I mean fish or seafood or vegetarian options.

We like Sai Cafe on Sheffield (sushi) but want to try something different.

Unusual food is also a plus. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Dan

  1. One idea would be Ras Dashen (Ethiopian food). I have dined here a few times and it has been consistently good. Inexpensive prices, several vegetarian dishes, not loud and would qualify for something different. It is in Edgewater, so not in Lincoln Park, but is about four to five miles away. Here is a link to the restaurant's website: http://www.rasdashenchicago.com/

    1. Depending how casual you want go, two places I'd highly recommend:

Irazu (Costa Rican Food, BYOB) - 1865 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL

Mariscos El Veneno (Mexican Seafood in the Nayarat style, BYOB) - 1024 N Ashland, Chicago, IL

Mariscos can be loud at peak hours, however, so keep that in mind.

      1. 4.5 miles northwest is Aroy Thai -- be sure to ask for the Thai menu, which contains lots of authentic/non-Americanized dishes. Nice, quiet, non-divey atmosphere, and some of the best Thai food in Chicago. http://www.aroythaichicago.com/

        1. How about Reza's (Persian) on N Clark in Andersonville. Their extensive menu includes many vegetarian and seafood options and prices are moderate. Most entrees are something grilled accompanied by excellent rice and grilled vegetables.
