Bean soup conundrum

  • 2

I have Paula Dean's Navy Bean Soup recipe. It says to rinse the beans in hot water until they are white. How can one rinse white beans until they are white?

  1. I would just ignore that. Just rinse & make sure there's no stones or foreign objects. I find a lot of odd & incorrect instructions in recipes I print from the food websites.

    1. I read somewhere that as a child, Paula Dean's family was dirt poor and could only afford dirty, non-washed navy beans. Her mother would rinse them under running water until the dirt washed off, or "until they are white".
