I assume that back when the NYC harbor pulled three tons of oysters/week, these critters, @ $1/pint, were quite the delicacy.

We go to an oyster festival in VA every November, and we find quite a few of these. My kids used to make us release them back into the water, but I am pretty sure most if not all died. There are people who just crunch them up. Not me, though.

The poor beast seemed quite stunned by its rude eviction.
Oyster liquor appeared to invigorate ... some.
I knew what I had to do ... return it to the bosom of the sea.
Given proximity, this meant committing its tender pincers to the Gowanus ...
perhaps, someday, to breach the hoary banks and feast on lumber at our neighborhood Lowes.
