Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Low sodium diet

Any suggestions for low sodium friendly restaurants and/or menu items? We'll be staying near Hell's Kitchen in early January. Thanks.

  1. What kind of restaurant are you looking for? Just a casual spot to pick up a lunch, or a nice restaurant to go for a meal? There are a couple of healthy options in that area-would especially recommend Fuel if you're looking for a healthy, low-sodium option. However, it's a casual spot, meant for takeout or a quick meal.
Zen Palate does advertise being a healthy option in Hells Kitchen, but I do not know if that specifically includes being low-sodium, and I don't see any info on their website. Might be worth calling to see. It is casual but still a sit-down meal, unlike Fuel.
Mooncake is another place that may have some good options, especially if you stay away from their options with heavier sauces. You could also ask them to hold off on the sauce on their dishes or only put a small amount on. It is healthy Asian-inspired cuisine in a casual setting.

    1. As far as I know, there aren't any places that specialize in low sodium food. Josie's might be worth looking into.

If you're low sodium, I would imagine you already know this, but--basically any upscale place would probably be able to accommodate given enough advance notice. Alternatively, many Chinese restaurants can do a saute with garlic, and/or ginger and onions. And most restaurants can do a plain piece of fish with nothing on it.

Second Avenue deli offers a low sodium chicken soup. I'm not sure it's worth making a special trip to either location, but if you're around there, it might be worth checking out.

      1. Look into Dig In Seasonal Market (formerly known as The Pump).
