Where can I find a "DURUM" (Doner Kabab) AKA Turkish Burritos

Hello all!
I was just in Europe this past month and was blown away by the 'Durums' they sold there. It is essentially the upright roticery meat shaved very thin with cabbage, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, sauces all wrapped up in what appears to be a tortilla and then grilled. I began calling these things "Turkish Burritos" because that is what they essentially looked like.... the taste was out of this world.

Anyway I'm back in the bay area and starving for some turkish burritos aka Durums. (I heard they are also called Shwarmas, but upon trying some shwarmas around I realized they aren't quite the same.) Does anyone know a place they serve these Durums in the bay area?

  1. There are quite a few places to find the doner. Your best bets will be places that don't use Kronos preprocessed meat, which is what is used by 95%+ of gyro/doner joints in the US. (Incidentally, I'd be interested to know how many of the ubiquitous cheap doner joints in Europe outside Turkey rely on similar processed products.)

    First places I would try:

    Grill House Mediterranean
Turkish Kitchen (which has both doner and an explicitly named "Turkish burrito" on the menu, though I tried the latter and it is probably not close to what you are looking for - I think it may even use an actual tortilla rather than lavash-type bread)

A La Turca might also have good doner. Does Gyro King in SF serve the real thing or is it also processed? Been too long for me to remember.

I suppose this is different from the Organ Doner Kabob.

    2. Here's a thread to read and possibly do a followup on.
