Baby Blues BBQ; 1300 On Fillmore; Hillstone, SF - good ribs?
Willie Brown mentioned in Inside Scoop about Bqby Blues BBQ in the Mission for good ribs, mac & cheese, & cole slaw. He likes Hillstone for ribs & 1300 On Fillmore for smoked ribs, bbq sauce on the side & you get corn bread.
Anybody been to them recently?

Baby Blues is fantastic and a great value.

Baby Blues is an LA chain. Had their pulled pork sammy lunch special a few years ago which was pretty good. It may be time to go check them out again.

They have 2 restaurants in LA, one in Philly (where the owners are from), and one in SF. I'd hardly call that a chain. The monster beef rib is awesome.

all opinions of baby blues aside, willie brown should never be taken seriously

After I read that he'd written "cold slaw" for cole slaw, I tend to agree.

I agree not to take him seriously but not over a typo.

how do you know it's a typo and not actually what he thinks it's called?

After Willie sends in the piece, I am sure there is an editorial staff to make corrections. In this case, that didn't seem to happen. Maybe he meant the slaw was cold. Who knows? But he is certainly not a food writer.

Baby Blues got some negative to middling reviews in the early days. Fun atmosphere, but plenty of lapses for the BBQ cognescenti to complain about. But I keep hearing good reviews from people who've gone there recently, and a take-out meal I had a few weeks back was quite good. Any recent reports, especially from anyone who'd been there in the early days?

1300 on Fillmore had a braised short rib on the menu when I was there recently, but nothing smoked that I remember.
Their Fried Chicken is one of the best I've had in SF.
