Restaurant for Vegan with Meat-eating Friends

Ok, I need a nice/fancy restaurant recommendation for dinner this Friday (11/25).

I am vegan; my friends are avid meat-eaters. I want to be able to order more than a garden salad, while still allowing them to order something they consider filling.

It needs to be in the DC/Maryland area.

Any ideas???

  1. Jaleo. Last time I ate there with a vegan friend there were at least eight terrific dishes we could order including the baby wrinkled potatoes, spinach with raisins, beet salad with citrus, garlic mushrooms, roasted eggplant and red pepper, grilled asparagus with romesco sauce, cucumbers stuffed with tomato (hold the cheese), and cauliflower with dates and olives. Those are my favorites.

The patatats bravas are great too, but all of their frituras are deep fried in the same oil, so there is some contamination from the non-vegan selections.

    1. We went to Rasika for the first time last night -- outstanding. Many vegan options (tell them to hold the yogurt sauce). Good luck with reservations.

Sticky Rice or Mandu would also probably fit the bill.

These are great options, and i'd just add Zaytinya (another Jose Andres restaurant, like Jaleo), which similarly has a lot of options. The cauliflower is a must-have.
