Well, as the above question states: How far in advance can you make reservations at Keens Steakhouse? And also, is there a general time for reservations at NYC restaurants?

The best way to find out for Keens and others is to go to Opentable.com and put in some dates. It will tell you if it is too far in advance. Most restaurants will take them a month or so in advance, some even longer. Keens, unlike some of the more trendy or high-end places, does not normally require more than a day's notice.

I'd call and ask if it's something like a birthday celebration so you don't get shut out.

I was able to pull up Jan 10 for Keens just now on OpenTable. It's not usually hard to book. If you really must know tha exact timeframe, I'd call them.

Typically NYC restaurants book 31, 30, and 28 days in advance, with a few exceptions like Le Bernardin, Ko, etc. IMO the best way to figure this out is to call the restaurant directly and ask.

I've gotten reservations at Keen's 1 or 2 days in advance many times. But only once on a Saturday nite. usually it's Sunday or during the week. And it's never been for more than 4 people. I have never made a reservation in any restaurant more than 5 days in advance. It is probably why I never was able to get into Masa where I called on 6 occasions for same-day reservations. But never had a problem anywhere else. But I will admit that I had to ask for favors in certain restauants i.e. Babbo, 15 East, Bklyn Fare, Le Bernadin, Minetta and a few more. It is very difficult for me to know what food mood I would be in a month from now. I eat where there is a parking spot, usually.
