Republic Cafe in Manchester, NH

My wife and I had lunch at Republic Cafe today in Manchester, NH. I had read lots of good things about it and wanted to give it a try. I'm glad I did. The food was really good and the service excellent. We had a mussel dish for an appetizer and we also got the french fries as an appetizer. They were both very tasty. The french fries were fried with capers and they were really good.

We also ordered entrees. My wife had a fish dish and I had a pasta dish with eggplant meatballs. Both dishes were very tasty as well. I think the fish dish (flounder with risotto and kale and stuffed fennel) was the better of the two. The fish was very fresh, the risotto creamy and rich, and the kale had a little bit of tanginess to it. The pasta dish was also really good. The eggplant meatballs were not oily or greasy and the sauce was nice (not overly salty or overly sweet - it was just right).

Even though we were stuffed (we didn't finish the entrees and packed up food to bring home) we split the german chocolate cake. It was wonderful. I think it was one of the best cakes I've had ever. I don't think I've had a better piece of cake!

Our waitress was really down-to-earth and helpful, and after our meal the manager came over to make sure everything was OK and to ask us how our meal was.

My wife and I were really happy to find such a good restaurant in Manchester, NH. The food was really fresh and everything was made from scratch. We will definitely go back! We're planning another Lunch Date next month around Christmas.

  1. We had dinner there last night--their fish is fantastic, 5 hours off the boat. Dining partner had the cod with beluga lentis, I had the scallops--the little ones, delicious over risotto.

    1. Finally headed here for lunch today. Can't wait! Will post a review later today.

      1. Lunch at Republic was great! Had the 3 for $10 anitpasto. Got curried cauliflower, African picked veggies, and hummus. All were tasty, although the hummus is not creamy as I'm used to. Next time I'd get 3 different things...not because I didn't enjoy them, but because I'd like to try other items.

We also get a bistro salad and vegetable tagine to share. These were both excellent...fresh, tasty, delicious! I would likely get these again.

Had the German chocolate cake for dessert...yum!

        We will definitely go back.

Only complaint...tables are way too close together.

You missed the fries!!! That's reason enough to go back ;). I enjoyed the cauliflower and pickled veggies as well. Glad you enjoyed it!

No fries...I've lost 18 lbs so far this year...the cake has been my one and only cheat. :)

the vegetable tagine was really quite good. it had grilled zucchini, eggplant, and tomatoes. in the middle was a couscous, chickpea, and tomato blend.

they also had 3 burgers on the menu today that were quite popular...beef, veggie, and seafood.

The tagine is what I had on my visit. Between that and the fries I really enjoyed Republic, and hope to go back sometime soon.

They are James Beard Awards 2012 semi finalists for Best Restaurateurs in the Northeast. Could not happen to two more hard-working, dedicated people.

I don't like fried foods but still find their frites to be delicious. Their roasted beet salad is also incredibly good. My husband and I have been their numerous times with friends, our teens, etc, and everyone has enjoyed it.
