Best barbecue in Manhattan for Sunday brunch

The posts about Smokey's got my brother and me craving some barbecue.

I've been to Blue Smoke and RUB and Bone Lick Park and Virgil's. The first three were pleasurable.

What's the best?

(I did try searching, but to little avail).

The BBQ at The Cardinal, on East 4th between Avenue A & B is to die for. They also do a killer brunch. Check it out -- the food is great!

We wound up going to Dinosaur barbecue

It was very good. We shared orders of chicken wings and pork ribs. The wings were very meaty and saucy, somewhat but not overpoweringly spicy. The ribs were tender and meaty and tasty. I was less impressed with the sides (greens, sweet potatoes, carrot salad and beans) all of which were OK, but nothing to write home about.

They also have a nice beer selection. I had a smoked porter, which went well with the food.

I'm not I understand your request... Basically you're looking for a barbecue place open on Sunday for lunch? Or somewhere with a special brunch menu that is different from dinner or regular lunch?

What about Dinosaur, Daisy's May's, or Hill Country? What kind of BBQ do you seek? I would do Dinosaur for pulled pork, Daisy May's for ribs, Hill Country for brisket.

          Hi Kathryn

Just looking for a place that's open on Sunday with good BBQ. Not sure what type.... probably ribs.

Daisy May's is known for their huge beef ribs, definitely give those a try. They also have two kids of pork ribs, both are pretty good.

I had a very disappointing experience with Daisy May's Memphis ribs. Wa-a-a-ay too salty! The K.C. ribs were better. There were other problems, In both cases, the ribs were not hot enough. When I asked for bbq sauce, turned out they keep it in the frig. Ice cold sauce on tepid ribs is not exactly a winning combination. Even on hot ribs it's not a good idea.

Agreed about the Daisy May temperature issues, and overall food/side issues combined with out of way location and dingy/cramped quarters, not a winner.

Have you considered outer borough BBQ? It's better in Brooklyn than Manhattan. Even LIC is putting up a good BBQ showing.

This former Texan votes for Dinosaur. We enjoyed the ribs, brisket, and chicken there as well as the sides, including mac and cheese, bbq beans, Syracuse potatoes, and coleslaw. I think they open at noon on Sundays.
