Best pear for roasting - bosc?

I am making a Roasted butternut squash, pears & dried cranberries dish for Turkey Day. Based on my research, I think bosc would be best, yes?

Also - the recipes calls for 3 cups of pear chunks - anyone know how many pears I would need?

Thanks!

Yes, use a Bosc and about 5-6 pears, depending on the size of the chunks and the pears. It doesn't hurt to have a few extra. Boscs can run on the small side.

Oh, you're welcome. If you have pears left over, try the "delicious pear cake" recipe in the thread of the same name; here's the link: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/7366...

        Enjoy!
