Anyone have a suggestion as to where I can locate high quality dates (the fruit, not the activity) in Philadelphia or nearby? Shields is just out of hand price-wise these days. Thanks.

Makkah Market at 43rd and Walnut might have them. I'd give them a call.

I haven't bought them in a while, but Bitar's on 10th and Federal has them and I also remember seeing them at the SuperFresh on Columbus Blvd. No idea about pricing though.
