Tonight: solo dining recommendation?

Hi--staying near the Water Tower tonight and looking for a good dinner where I'll feel comfortable eating alone. Anything but Indian or pizza (already loved Lou Malnati's); am always happy to eat at the bar rather than a table. Inventive cocktails a plus. I'm willing to spend some money on this--delicious food (local places only--no chains) and a comfortable, non-stuffy atmosphere are the musts.

I'm willing to take a cab/the L/the subway as long as it's relatively easy to get there and back.

Thanks!

Purple Pig, Sable, and Sunda could be options...

Purple Pig doesn't accept reservations but I think a solo dinner will be easy to get in.

lbs recommendations are all great ones- depending on what type of food you're in the mood for. On the creative cocktails side, Sable will have the most selection but their food is the least interesting of the 3 in my opinion. Another favorite spot for creative cocktails is the Drawing Room which isn't too far from your hotel- you could always stop there for a drink and have dinner elsewhere too. You'd be fine at any of these eating solo and they all have fun and lively atmospheres.

A new Spanish restaurant in the West Loop (a short cab ride from where you'll be staying) has been getting great reviews so far. It's called Vera and I certainly think that comfortable and non-stuffy would apply. I don't know if their drinks program extends beyond wine and beer, though, at least not at the moment.
