Hartford Area Restaurants Open for Christmas?

mlosmond Nov 21, 2011 07:11 PM

We live overseas and will be visiting elderly relatives in the Hartford/Glastonbury area. We are looking for names of restaurants that will be open for Christmas dinner so no one needs to cook.
Can anyone assist?? Thanks.

If all else fails, the GoldRoc diner right off 84 in W. Hartford (Exit 44) is open 24/7, including all holidays.

The buffet at Mohegan Sun is our christmas tradition. Worth a shot if you don't mind a bit of a drive.

You might want to check hotel dining rooms who may be open to serve guests. For example, Vivo at the Hartford Marriott is pretty good. Not sure if they're open but worth a check.

Thanks - I saw that restaurant listed as open last year so I assumed it was a possibility this year.

Thanks - hadn't thought of them, but if they are open it's a great choice.

thank you brookerme - Mill on the river looks perfect! Have you been? Mostly good reviews but enough saying food is mediocre and service quite bad to make me wonder. Still seems worth it given the lack of options on x-mas - thanks!

I think the food and the service are generally quite good. I'd go myself if I didn't have a family alternative.

Are you looking for a more traditional meal or would you be up for hotwing's Chinese suggestion? Great Taste is a great idea if that fare sounds good to you and yours.

I just checked J Gilbert's in Glastonbury, but they're CLOSED on Christmas. That would have been my recommendation for a more traditional meal. It crossed my mind because they're open for Thanksgiving and it tempted me.

Thanks - J. Gilberts was one of the places I was hoping for but their website wouldn't send my message under Contact Us. Too bad - it's a great place!

Agree, I love it, too. If I can think of another place like that, and not too far, I'll post again...but so many places are closed on Christmas Day--would you settle for Christmas Eve? Reservations are still available for Christmas Eve at J Gilbert's. HO HO HO! *<:) Oh, and Cavey's is open Christmas Eve, too, but not the day...

A very popular restaurant for Christmas is Great Taste in New Britain. It's a very nice Chinese restaurant with excellent food and service about 15 minutes outside of Hartford. From what I understand you need to make reservations ahead of time because they have many regulars for Christmas day.

Do they sing christmas carols a la "A Christmas Story"? That would be most entertaining!
