lunch near the Art Car Museum

  • 6

Will be visiting the Art Car Museum on a Sunday and wondering if there is a decent spot for lunch nearby.

If not, we will be at the Station Museum in the afternoon, so somewhere near there would also work.

  1. The Art Car Museum on Heights Blvd offers lots of options in the Heights and along Washington Blvd. and Montrose Blvd. You are in a great place for lunch. You don't mention price or food type, but Hubcap Grill has some of Houston's best great burgers, newly opened in the Heights. Ditto Christian's Tailgate on Washington @ I-10. Niko Niko on nearby Montrose has the best Greek food in town, gyros, fish and lots more, order at the counter and sit on the patio if the weather's nice. Laurenzo's on Washington is more upscale with steaks, fish and some sandwiches at lunch. Dolce Vita on Westheimer near Montrose has fantastic pizza and pasta (closed Mondays). The options are too numerous to mention. Check http://www.b4-u-eat.com and under "area of town" select Montrose, Heights or Washington Corridor to look at options.

As for the Station Museum, I've not heard of that! But I've only lived in Houston for 40 years. :/

Oops....should have mentioned our specifics. We are a foodie crowd looking for someplace nice with amazing food where we can also get a great bottle of wine. Price is not an option.....but good atmosphere and good food is a must.

      Does that help?

Stella Sola is a five minute drive from that area, and they do Sunday brunch/lunch. Indika is less than 10 minutes by car, also open for brunch. At both of these places, the brunch offerings are more "lunch-y." Great food at both, nice drink list and wines.

Just went to the Stella Sola website and it says they only do dinner. Is that a mistake? We are going to Indika for dinner of Friday....one of my favs!

Huh, they used to do a Sunday brunch, I guess no more. Hugo's is not far and their brunch is much lauded if you like Mexican food (upscale). Reservations a must. Many of my favorites are not open for Sunday lunch or switch to a brunch menu. Max's Wine Dive is very close (on Washington) and their food is fantastic and the wine list mind boggling. Also need reservations.

I would say Backstreeet Cafe would be a nice choice as well, very good wine list. The food is usually very good but I have recommended it and it dissapointed. Its on Shepherd or just off shepherd.
Have not been to Coppa but the owners always have a great wine list. Its on Washington not very far from Art Car.
What about Brennans? Probably my favorite sunday spot. Don't get there much because it's hard to have a few mint julips and come home and hang with the kids but if I were to do that it would be here.
Brennan's has best atmosphere followed by Backstreet. Both are in the very top of houstons outdoor dining IMO if the weather is good.
