Using up Grapefruits in a cocktail?
I am hosting Thanksgiving and just found out that my CSA is sending me 3-4 grapefruits today! I need to get them used (they always just sit), and was thinking a cocktail would be a great way to go. I would love to use something that uses both the juice and the zest (even if just as a garnish).
Any Ideas? Would be great if it wasn't too summery (I know thats hard with grapefruit)
Kind of a hard task without knowing what you like. A Hemingway Daiquiri would be an obvious choice. If you like bitter things, I made a Grumpy Brit #2, with Campari, Pimm's, and Grapefruit juice, which I love. There are Tiki drinks that use grapefruit juice, although perhaps not in large enough quantities to use up your fruit.
I love grapefruit. My CSA keeps sending winter squash, sweet potatoes, carrots and such. It isn't even Thanksgiving and I'm done with orange food.

Some favorites of mine that don't require too many esoteric ingredients (some simpler than others though). Most of these will work any season too.
Bohemian
1 oz Gin
1 oz St. Germain
1 oz Grapefruit Juice
1 dash Peychaud's Bitters
Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
Up in Mabel's Room
1 1/2 oz Rye Whiskey
3/4 oz Grapefruit Juice
3/4 oz Honey Syrup (2:1)
Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a grapefruit twist.

1/4 Grapefruit Juice (3/4 oz)
1/4 Maraschino Liqueur (3/4 oz)
1/4 Sweet Vermouth (3/4 oz)
1/4 Dry Gin (3/4 oz)
Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a hazelnut.
The One-armed French Hooker
1 1/2 oz Bols Genever
1 oz St. Germain
1 oz Grapefruit Juice
2 dash Peychaud's Bitters
Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Float prosecco (~1 oz) on top.
Cravan Cocktail
1 1/2 oz Bourbon
3/4 oz Grapefruit Juice
1/2 oz Maraschino Liqueur
1/4 oz Campari
1 dash Angostura Bitters
Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist or a sprig of mint.
Polly's Special
2 oz Blended Scotch
1/2 oz Orange Curacao
1/2 oz Grapefruit Juice
Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange wedge.
