Best Sachertorte in Toronto and GTA

Hello everyone.
I have a friend who really likes Sachertorte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sachertorte) and I think that would be an amazing Christmas present. I found a few places that sells it but I was going to ask fellow food lovers: do you know a store / pastry shop or anything other place where I can get a very delicious authentic Sachertorte?? Thank you very much :)

Sadly, you won't find one close enough to the original....as I've searched far and wide.
Each time I end up ordering one directly from Hotel Sacher in Vienna. Shipping to Toronto is easy as pie and no issues with customs.

Omg I am going to order one for my family. Thank you :) I still have the box somewhere in my basement. Oh nostalgia. I guess problem solved. Mind you, Stubbe makes a good one too.

A friend bought me a Stubbe Sachertorte just yesterday for my birthday party and it was absolutely delicious. I don't know how authentic the cake they serve is, I had the raspberry jam filling one rather than the more traditional apricot because my friend prefers raspberry, but the cake was excellent, chocolatey but not heavy, and it was covered with an icing of very good quality dark chocolate.
      Everyone was in raptures.

It's funny, years & years ago I was actually in Cafe Sacher across from the Opera House in Vienna. I don't remember having the sachertorte. I think I had the Napoleon Slice. What was I thinking?? What I do remember was how expensive it was. That piece of cake and a coffee cost more than my entire meal (1/2 roast chicken, fries, coke) had cost just one week before in Istanbul. And I do remember thinking at the time how absolutely worth it, it was. :D

And don't forget, December 5 is National Sachertorte Day.

Lol it has been a while since I posted the original question. I ended up going to Stubbe. Delicious product. They give you an option of raspberry or apricot jam. I went with traditional apricot. It was fantasti, reminded us of Austrian Demel. The only thing I was not aware of is the fact that you have to pre-order so I had to go there twice :( Oh their truffles are quite nice too :)

Realize this is too late for your 2011 request, but in case you want to treat your friend at some point, Sachertorte is on the menu at the Old Country Inn in Unionville: http://www.oldcountryinn.ca/menu/dess...

Prima, how is the rest of the food at Old Country Inn? Is there anything in particular that you would recommend? I want to go try the Sachertorte and am wondering if the restaurant is worth driving out to.

Haven't been yet, but it was recently recommended in the German restaurant thread. I just remembered someone was looking for Sachertorte, so I decided to post.

The menu has a lot more variety than the German options closer to TO, so I'm guessing it might be worth the drive to Unionville if you like German or Austrian food. I'd probably order the Sauerbraten (beef marinated in wine, vinegar and spices for a few days, then braised) because I rarely have seen this on German restaurant menus in Canada, and it takes extra planning to make it at home. I'm not a huge fan of Sachertorte, so I'd probably order the strudel or palatschinken.

Thanks for the help navigating the menu. I've had very little exposure to German food so this is helpful. I will add this to my google map of restaurants to visit and will report back when I finally go!

            Try Stubbe:-

I have found all of their chocolate excellent and thoroughly enjoyed several of their cakes, including Sacher Torte.

Do report back when you have found.

Try calling the CAKE BOUTIQUE on Wilson Avenue (same plaza as Bagel World, just west of Bathurst). The Baker is European, (teaches at George Brown College), I think he might be able to either make one for you or point you in the right direction..
