HELP with restaurant in Northeast Philly

We have a HS reunion this week & need a great place for dinner & drinks beforehand. The event will be @ P & P caterers on Southampton road near the Boulevard. I don't know that area well. Gastropub with great food would be perfect, as we'll be small group of guys. Suggestions?

The Northeast is not exactly Gastropub territory, but let me suggest a couple of options. Three Monkeys Cafe is right near the Torresdale Train Station. Two other options that are in the realm of gastropub are Grey Lodge Pub on Frankfort Avenue, or the Hop Angel. The former is a gastropub that is renowned for a good beer selection, decent cheesesteaks and fries. The latter is a remake of a german restaurant in the Fox Chase Section. Each is about a twenty minute drive from your location. One other option is an outpost of Chickie and Petes on Roosevelt Boulevard. Known for their mussels and crab fries, Chickie and Petes has become one of the best known sports bars in the Philadelphia region, with outposts on the boulevard, near the Stadium Complex, at the Jersey Shore, at Casinos, the airport, and starting to open branches in the suburbs.

Thanks very much. I've been to Chickie & Pete's on Blvd & elsewhere. Not fan of their beer selection or food. I think we're leaning towards hop angel, which I think will be more convenient than grey lodge according to google maps. Will have to check out three monkeys online. It's just 3 or 4 dudes, but we're all high maintenance foodies types in our old age...so ideally would be great beer & great food.

I haven't tried Hop Angel, but between Grey Lodge and Three Monkeys, the food is definitely better at Three Monkeys (I was very underwhelmed by the Grey Lodge . . . maybe a result of the hype), the beer selection much better at the Grey Lodge.

But as cwd notes, the northeast isn't gastropub territory.

Grey Lodge is pretty convenient, just take Rt. 1 south to Harbison Ave. south, the Grey Lodge is just east of Harbison and Frankford. I've never been to Hop Angel but the beer selection at Grey Lodge is excellent and the food is very good bar food.
