New woodcooker in Lumberton

After a long time and a lot of work, Andy Price is about to open a genuine, old-fashioned, wood-cooking, whole hog barbecue place in Lumberton. Andy apprenticed with the great Wilber Shirley in Goldsboro and knows what he's doing. Varmint had an interview with him a while back:

The place will be called Nelson's Barbecue and deserves to succeed. Should be open by New Year's.

The place must have been seriousluy undercapitalized. You can't expect to get into the black that quickly. Still, it's a shame. Nelson's was the first good news in the NC barbecue world in a long time. Too bad it closed instead of Smithfield Chicken n' Barbecue,

Nelson's is scheduled to open Tuesday, December 27th. They'll be open all that week, then closed on New Year's Eve and Day. A formal Grand Opening will be held early in January.

That would sure remedy the problem of the through travelers wanting a quick detour for weekend BBQ!

Maybe just for now.... one can only hope. Open Sunday then close Mon. & Tues. would be just fine.

THEY'RE NOW OPEN SUNDAY! The new hours are Wed thru Sat 10:30am - 8:00pm and Sunday 11:00am-4:00pm (lunch)
