Help -- need recos for fun birthday dinner

I'm trying to plan a 35th birthday dinner for my friend for next Saturday for us and our husbands. I want someplace fun with good food and not over-the-top expensive. She loves Buddakan, so someplece with that kind of scene would be good. I thought Beauty and Essex (haven't been) or Spice Market (didn't love when I went but it was decent atmosphere) but both are booked. I have a back-up reservation at Public, which I went to awhile back and thought was pretty good. Tapas, Asian fusion, New American, Greek, or Italian -- that kind of thing. We're pretty open about location. Thanks!!

Saxon + Parole has tables for four left on OpenTable for that night; it's the same chef behind Public.

Ok, thanks. Is this place fun?

      No other recos?

The bigger issue is that fun usually means "no reservations taken" or places that are already probably booked for next weekend. Additionally, you posted later during the day on Friday. This board is usually busier during M-F, 9-5.
